For sale by owner signs?

fillmein asked:

Hello,

We recently decided to put our house on sale by owner and we got the placard from the store, put our phone number, and address. Placed the placard in the grassy island between the roads that is opposite our house. I live in a township and this is a townhouse. The other day, I realized that the board was not there anymore. Anybody know if we are required to get permission from the municipality or the area’s maintenance office before displaying the board? Plesae let me know soon.

you can place the sign on your property. NOT on public land.

You need to check with the city and county on the sign ordinances.

Hello Fillmein,

Most cities and townships have a sign ordinance which must be obeyed. In my County, the County of Monroe in the Florida Keys, they will actually fine you and remove the sign. Check with the town hall in your area. In most cases having the sign on your private property or with permission anothers private property will be OK.

Best of Luck,

The grassy island belongs to the same government entity as owns the street. You are not allowed to place anything there.

Unless there is a local law to the contrary, you can put it on the lawn of your house (between the house and the street, but not blocking pedestrians or mail delivery).
